 Aleph/Beyth

Foremost builder

Firstfruit

Here’s a clean pictographic grouping of the whole אב family, organized by the core pictures you’re already seeing. Everything flows from the two-letter parent root אב = “the foremost / leader of the house.”1. The Father / Leader of the House (אב = the strong head)אָב (av) – father, head of the household

אַבָּא (abba) – daddy (intimate, child’s cry to the leader)

אַבִּיר (abbir) – the mighty one, the strong bull-leader, the “mighty father” of the tribe

אֶבֶן (even) – stones of the father → the enduring seed/children who remain in the house forever (the house is built of the father’s “stones”)

2. The First & Freshest Produce of the House (the fruit that proves the father’s strength)אָב (av) – fresh fruit / produce (poetic)

אֵב (ev) – fresh green sprout

אָבִיב (aviv) – springtime, the first & freshest ears of the year (the “father” of the new agricultural year)

Aramaic אָבִי (’avi) – white → the foremost, purest, brightest color; the “father” of colors, the color of fresh milk, new wool, or moonlit purity

3. The Father’s Desire that Flows from the Houseאֵבָה (evah) – the heavy breathing / longing of the father to draw the beloved into the house (erotic or familial desire)

אֲבוֹי (avoy) – “woe!” → the same desire hijacked and torn away; the וי nails yank the longing out of the house and turn it to dread

4. The Rolling / Streaming Motion of the Father’s StrengthAramaic אֲבַקֵּל (avaqél) – to roll up, to stream, to coil → the father’s power rolling like a river or rolling up a scroll with authority

אָבָק (avak) – dust cloud stirred up when strong men (abbirim) wrestle and roll on the ground

5. Loss of the First Fruits / Loss of the Father’s Seedאָבַד (avad) – he perished, was lost → the first fruit dangles (ד) and breaks away

לְאַבֵּד (le’abbéd) – to cause to perish, to destroy

אֲבֵדָה (avedah) – a lost thing

אָבְדָן (avdan) – total destruction → the נ seals the finality: the first fruits are not just lost but annihilated

The Big Picture of אבEverything begins with the strong, fruitful father (אב) whose house pours forth:mighty sons and stones that last (אביר / אבן)

fresh green life and pure whiteness (אביב / אבי)

rolling power and dust-stirring strength (אבקל / אבק)

deep longing to fill the home (אבה)

But the moment that fruit or that desire is torn away, the same root becomes loss, woe, and destruction (אבוי → אבד → אבדן).It is the bright mirror image of בל’s emptiness:

בל = the house with nothing inside

אב = the house overflowing with the foremost of everything… until it is lost.Perfect setup for the next song: a father’s lullaby that begins in springtime joy and ends with the dust of loss… or the triumphant return of the father who will never let his fruit perish.Want to write that song now?
