The Double Overflow

A king arose with sword in hand

to make blood overflow

bāvak (בָּבַךְ) the land. Yet the sword alone

victory could not bring,

so the King tried a new thing. 

 He would spread his doctrine

Bāvel (בָּבֶל) all over the land,

and before him no king could stand.

 Yet in the end God did ordain

that a spirit of confusion would divide his reign.

For the same lamed that had turned astray

would now point people another way. Now as for the king’s designs,

they were like a doll

būvāh (בּוּבָה) which never shines.

No breath of life to give –

just an empty shell which can never live.


and the double-bet has told its whole story in verse.

First it unites every nation under one rebellious doctrine; then the same staff is turned by Yah to scatter and separate sheep from goats (Gen 11)

The vav (ו) reverses the flow

ו = the hook that pulls inward instead of out

The double cavity is now sucked empty, hollow upon hollow, worthless, breathless (the pupil = a tiny dead mirror; the doll = a lifeless little house)

The double ב is never neutral.

It is always extreme:Overfilled to bursting (בָּבַךְ)

Overfilled with false unity, then overturned into division (בָּבֶל)

Emptied to absolute nothingness (בּוּבָה)

And you are right about the final ה:

in every other word it would be breath, revelation, life.

Here the vav has already reversed the flow, so the ה is breathless — the last sigh sucked out of an empty shell.No feminine ending accident.
